Lighthouse Residence: Timber Façade and Glulam Roofing by Artius

For us, the project is an opportunity to share the work behind two defining elements of the home: its timber louvre façade and the glulam roofing system for the outhouse. Both were prefabricated at our Gurugram manufacturing facility, bringing our factory capabilities into a carefully considered residential setting.
Timber that shapes the light
The timber screens are an immediately recognisable part of Lighthouse Residence. Their repeated lines give the façade a distinct rhythm, while the spaces between them allow sunlight to pass through.
Here, timber has a direct role in how the home is experienced. The screens introduce the colour and texture of wood across the exterior, creating a softer transition between the building and its surroundings. As daylight changes, so does the relationship between the timber and the light passing through it.
The façade uses Yellow Cedar louvres engineered with glulam. The architects describe the screens as providing privacy and controlling light, with operable sections helping shield the living space from heat and glare. Project details on ArchDaily.
Bringing timber into the outhouse roof
Artius’s contribution continues in the outhouse, where our glulam roofing system brings the presence of wood overhead.
A roof occupies a large part of what we see and feel within a space. Using timber here gives the material a different expression from the slender lines of the façade. It becomes part of the experience of sitting, gathering and spending time beneath it.
Together, the screens and roofing system show the range of possibilities within one material: timber can filter light at the edge of a home and bring warmth to the space above us.
From our Gurugram facility to the project
Both systems began at Artius’s manufacturing facility in Gurugram. Prefabrication moves much of the work into the factory before the components reach the site.
This connection between manufacturing and architecture is central to our work. For architects exploring timber, the conversation extends from the appearance of a finished element to how it can be made and assembled.
At Lighthouse Residence, we brought that manufacturing expertise to the timber façade and roofing system envisioned for the project.
